Add page numbers to every page of a PDF in any corner or centred, with custom start, size, prefix and colour. Local with pdf-lib.
Adds page numbers to every page via pdf-lib. Nothing leaves your device.
What the page-number tool does
Open a PDF and add a page number to every page in the position you choose (corners or bottom centre), with a custom starting number, font size, prefix text and colour. The result downloads as a new PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Numbering runs in the page with pdf-lib.
Can I pick the colour?
Yes, type any hex colour such as #ff0000 for red. The default is black.
Does it alter the pages?
It only draws the number text; existing content stays intact.
How to use it
- Open the PDF in your browser. The file loads locally and is never uploaded to a server.
- Select a position by clicking one of the five options: bottom right (
br), bottom left (bl), bottom centre (bc), top right (tr), or top left (tl). - Enter your preferences in the fields provided: the starting page number, font size in points, optional prefix text, and a colour using a hex code such as
#000000for black. - Click “Add page numbers and download.” The tool generates a new PDF with numbers drawn on every page and saves it to your device.
Where it comes in handy
A 42-page contract needs sequential page numbers in the bottom right corner for filing. This tool adds them without opening expensive editing software or affecting the existing layout.
A student submits a 150-page thesis with page numbering starting at 1 and centred at the bottom. The output is ready for upload to the university portal with no formatting errors.
A team reviews a 28-slide handout where each page must be referenced by number. Page numbers in the top left with a “P-” prefix (e.g., P-1, P-2) make citation straightforward during meetings.
Worth knowing
- The starting number can be any integer, including negative numbers or zero. If you set it to 0 on a 10-page document, pages will be numbered 0 through 9.
- Font sizes below 6 points may appear unreadable on most screens and when printed. The tool does not enforce a minimum; it renders exactly what you specify.
- If the PDF has blank pages or pages with transparent backgrounds, the number still draws on top of them. There is no option to skip certain pages or apply numbering only to a subset.
