How it works: each page is rendered to a JPEG at the quality you choose, then re-packaged into a new PDF. Lower quality = smaller file but softer text. Scanned or image-heavy PDFs shrink the most; already-optimised PDFs may barely change. The compressed file is image-based, so text is no longer selectable — perfect for sharing, not for editing.

A PDF that used to be 12 MB and refuses to email is usually a scanned document that nobody optimised. This tool re-encodes your PDF in the browser and hands the smaller file straight back to you, so you can attach it, upload it, or send it to a portal with a size cap.

How to use the pdf compressor

  1. Choose a PDF file from your device.
  2. Pick a quality level — higher quality keeps more detail and produces a larger file; lower quality shrinks harder.
  3. Press Compress PDF. The file is processed on your device, not on a server.
  4. When it finishes, press Download to save the smaller PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends on the file. Image-heavy scans usually shrink the most; a PDF that is already optimised may barely change. Try a lower quality level for a bigger reduction.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The compression runs entirely in your browser, and the file is never sent to a server. It stays on your device.

Will compressing reduce quality?

Yes, to a degree — that is the trade-off for a smaller file. For mostly-text PDFs the drop is barely noticeable; for scanned photos, lower quality is more visible.

Is there a file-size limit?

There is no artificial cap. Very large PDFs may take a moment to process because the work happens on your own device.
